Biografi |
Adam Willaerts was born in London to Flemish parents who had fled from Antwerp of religious reasons. The family soon moved back to the Netherlands and Leiden sometime in the mid 1580s. Little is known about early life of Willaerts but what is certain is that he 1597 had moved to Utrech where he is recorded in the guild of St Luke in 1611, and later became dean in 1620. Willaerts is mostly known for his coastal landscapes and harbour set genre scenes. His work often shows inspiration from Hendrik Cornelisz Vroom, but any other connection between the two artists is not known.
