Nothing is known for certain regarding where or when Andres Lopez Polanco was born, but it is possible that he originated from Valladolid. This assumpition is based upon a signed but undated portrait executed by Lopez of Juan Bautista de Aceredo, the second-bishop of Valladolid, still in the city cathedral. The other works of Lopez is recorded in Madrid from 1608, where he served as court painter to Philip III and Philip IV. Through out his entire career he devoted himself almost exclusively to portraits.
