A Trip hammer is made by cast iron and timber. All assemblies between iron and wood are made with wooden wedges. Before you start the hammer you have to check the wedges with a sledge hammer to find out if there are any loose ones.

The Lancashire forge in Olofsfors Iron Works, Västerbotten, is from 1870s. The Lancashire hearth was used to fine pig iron, removing carbon to produce wrought iron.
