The combined heat and power plant is the largest producer of heat and electricity for Krakow, it meets the needs of over 70% of residents, companies and institutions.

The station includes a decarbonisation, filtration, initial and final demineralization installation as well as a water correction installation supplementing the heating circuit. Natural water is a mixture of various organic and mineral substances. Rainwater also contains dissolved gases and air pollutants. Many of these components have undesirable properties (corrosion, sedimentation), therefore, depending on the purpose, the water must be further treated. Drinking water is subjected to coagulation, filtration, disinfection (chlorination), water for industrial applications is softened (by removing calcium and magnesium) or demineralized.
