Byggmästare var Daniel Lundqvist från Gävle och bygget leddes av hans verkgesäll Johan Christopher Loell. Invigning skedde den 13 november 1785 av prosten Pehr H Wasenius. 

På platsen låg en medeltida kyrka som skulle sammanfalla med den nya kyrkans västra del fram till korsarmarna.
