Föremålen i montern har använts i olika ritualer eller sällskap vars syfte var att bota sjukdomar, motverka olycka eller öka barnafödandet. Simbi-andar var särskilt verksamma i den nedre delen av kroppen för att motverka problem som rör magen, fortplantning och sex. De åkallades även i rituella sammanhang som krävde andlig återfödelse. När till exempel medlemmar initierades i en kult, var det vanligt att en del av invigningen innebar dramatiserade möten med simbi-andar. I de levandes värld håller simbi-andar till i vattendrag och berg. De bor ofta i snäckor, stenar och andra ting. Ibland tar de mänsklig form i personer som är tvillingar eller som har funktionsvariationer eller albinism. When members were initiated into a cult, it was common for part of the initiation to involve dramatised encounters with simbi. In the world of the living, simbi can be found in bodies of water and mountains. They often live in shells, stones and other objects. Sometimes they take human form in people who are twins or have disabilities or albinism.
