This is very good specimen of a stand to hold the narrow end of a long narrow drum of Bakongo type. These stands are sometimes provided with wheels of wood. This example seems to be in the style not of the Bab-
wende but of the Basundi subtribe of the Bakongo. They are called dikalu di ndungu  or drum chariots. See Boone, Les Tambours du C.B. Trevuren, 1951. pages 35,36 and plate XXXI, 2.3. W.B.Fagg. 16.9.57
