Asken är på utsidan dekorerad med djupt skurna reliefmönster föreställande drakar, på ovansidan ett shou-tecken (långt liv).  På askens undersida finns sex kinesiska tecken inristade och ifyllda med guld som talar om att asken är gjord under Ming-dynastin.

Enligt katalogkort: “Chinese lacquer box and cover. Period: Ming, Chia-ching. Description: Round, in carved red lacquer. Straight sides. flat cover and slightly sunk bottom. On cover design of large shou character, filled with flying cranes, clouds, and two characters: Fu (=luck, grass script) and Lu (=emoluments, archaic script). On sides dragons among waves. Inside black lacquered. On base a carved six-character Chia-ching mark, filled in with gold. Measures: D. 187mm H. 87mm. Purchased: Bequest of H.M. King Gustaf VI Adolf. No 2509. Dossier: J. Wirgin: BMFEA 44/1972, Pl. 31.”

Material: Rött relieflack mot brun botten. Svart invändigt och i botten.
