UNIVERSITY CENTER STATION WILLIAM MATHEWSON MILLIKEN, DIRECTOR CABLE ADDRESS: MUSART CLEVELAND March 17, 1939 Professor B. Karlgren Ostasiatiska Samlingarsa Sveavagen, 65 Stockholm, Sweden Dear Professor Karlgren: I an at last sending you the photographs that I promised you several months ago. These do not include all of our bronzes, but the other ones are for the most part poor specimens which I believe would not interest you greatly. If you want photographs of them, however, I can doubtless arrange to send them to you. You will notice that I have attached labels to the backs of the photographs, giving information that you would not otherwise know and also telling the date. Please do not think that I am trying to teach you anything about the dating of Chinese bronzes. On the contrary, I hope that you will tell me if you disagree with the dates as I now have them. Only two of the bronzes have inseriptions and, as I have been unable to obtain legible rubbings, I have done my best to copy them for you. should greatly appreciate it if you could tell me the meaning of the inseription in the small tsun No. 2572.18. Incidentally, this vessel strikes me as being quite soft and uninteresting and yet it seems to fit into your Shang category. May I have your opinion in this matter? With regard to the bulletins that you asked for, we are now sending you the volumes from 1928 to 1934, inclusive, but we are not sending you a bill. The point is that our Librarian tells me that we have been on an exchange basis with you and that we now owe you $19.75. The charge for our Bulletin is $1.50 a year and, therefore, if it is satisfactory to you, we shall simply subtract $10.50 from the $19.75 taat we owe you, thereby leaving us in your debt $9.25. If this is not satisfactory from your point of view, I shall expect to hear from you about it. It may interest you to know that lr. Bensabott, a dealer in Chicago, has written ne that he has found the two missing wings of our big lacquer "Cranes and Serpents." He says he will send them to me as soon as they arrive from China. With kindest regards, Yours very sincerely, Howard Hollis Curator of Oriental Art</pres:description><pres:image><pres:mediaType>image/jpeg</pres:mediaType><pres:src type="thumbnail">https://collections.smvk.se/carlotta-om/web/image/tn/10383208/E1A-19_0517.jpg</pres:src><pres:src type="lowres">https://collections.smvk.se/carlotta-om/web/image/zoom/10383207/E1A-19_0517.jpg</pres:src><pres:mediaLicense>http://kulturarvsdata.se/resurser/License#by-nc-nd</pres:mediaLicense><pres:byline xml:lang="sv">Östasiatiska museet</pres:byline><pres:copyright xml:lang="sv">Statens museer för världskultur</pres:copyright></pres:image><pres:references><pres:reference>http://kulturarvsdata.se/SMVK-OM/arkiv/204098</pres:reference></pres:references><pres:representations><pres:representation format="HTML">http://kulturarvsdata.se/SMVK-OM/arkivdokument/html/514111</pres:representation><pres:representation format="XML">http://kulturarvsdata.se/SMVK-OM/arkivdokument/xml/514111</pres:representation><pres:representation format="RDF">http://kulturarvsdata.se/SMVK-OM/arkivdokument/rdf/514111</pres:representation></pres:representations></pres:item>
