I then joined Ts'ing Hua University and was in Kunming for seven years. In this period our department did much work in investigating the non-Chinese dialects in Yunnan and the rest of southwest China. I believe you know of and have already received a copy of the translation of your great work on Chinese phonology. It is a great ald to our — students to be able to read a translation of your book. I was fortunate in having the oppoartunity to read your Grarmeata Serica through the kindness of the National Library of Peiping, with which I was associated as an editor of the Chinese Archaeological Series. My wife has translated the introduetory chapter of your Grammata Serica along with my rather long review which was published in the Tsting Hua Journal, vol. 13, no. 2. I believe you have a copy of it now. In any case I shall send you another copy later. In the Autumn of 1944 I came to the United States on the invitation of the Rockefeller Foundation and the department of Oriental Langueges at the University of Chicago, to teach for a short time. I am also carrying out a project for a Corpus of Chinese Bronzes in American Collections, under the auspices of the Harvard-Yenching Institute. I hope someday my corpus will w extend to the European collections of Chinese bronzes. Enelosed is one of the work sheets used. It will probably be of interest to you. We lost all of our books in Peiping and now I am eager to get a complete file of the Bulletin of the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities. Up to just yesterday I saw nothing after volume ten and it was a great pleasure to see the new volumes, nos. 14-17, at, the Art Institute in Chicago. Would you be so kind as to heve send me a'complete set of the Bulletin which would be of extra- ordinary benefit, not only to myself, but also to Ts'ing Haa University. I shall be able to send you an article on the shapes of Chinese bronzes next month and also a copy of the catalogue of the Buckingham Collection of Chinese Bronzes, next Spring. I hope that Harvard will be able to put my Corpus into the press sometime next year. I would be glad to have your advice. I am now very badly in need of photographs for comparative studies and would like to know if it is possible for you to send me such materials from the various Swedish collections. Any advice on this subject would be deeply appreciated. For such photo- graphs, I would of course, be willing to pay the expenses. Most sincerely yours Ch'en Meng-chia</pres:description><pres:image><pres:mediaType>image/jpeg</pres:mediaType><pres:src type="thumbnail">https://collections.smvk.se/carlotta-om/web/image/tn/10376771/E1A-19_0072.jpg</pres:src><pres:src type="lowres">https://collections.smvk.se/carlotta-om/web/image/zoom/10376770/E1A-19_0072.jpg</pres:src><pres:mediaLicense>http://kulturarvsdata.se/resurser/License#by-nc-nd</pres:mediaLicense><pres:byline xml:lang="sv">Östasiatiska museet</pres:byline><pres:copyright xml:lang="sv">Statens museer för världskultur</pres:copyright></pres:image><pres:references><pres:reference>http://kulturarvsdata.se/SMVK-OM/arkiv/204098</pres:reference></pres:references><pres:representations><pres:representation format="HTML">http://kulturarvsdata.se/SMVK-OM/arkivdokument/html/513588</pres:representation><pres:representation format="XML">http://kulturarvsdata.se/SMVK-OM/arkivdokument/xml/513588</pres:representation><pres:representation format="RDF">http://kulturarvsdata.se/SMVK-OM/arkivdokument/rdf/513588</pres:representation></pres:representations></pres:item>
