Andersson, Östasiatiska Samlingarna, Sveawägen 65, Stockholm, Sweden, Dear Prof. Andersson, Many thanks for your kind letter of May 15th which has reached me at about the same time as yours to Dr. W. H. Wong as he has already forwarded the same to Dr. T. K. Huang for his reference. A copy of your letter sent to my Changsha address has also been forwarded here. Our headquarters was moved from Changsha to Chungking in August 1938, and in order to avoid the unnecessary sacri- fice by merciless bombardments by the Japanese air raiders as already did on January 1l5th, May 3rd, 4th, 1l2th and 25th, and on June 9th and llth in Chungking, we moved again to Peh- pei in last March. Therefore we sustained no damage whatso- ever on our books and equipments. Of course we have brought with us the manuscripts of Mrs. Bylin-Althin and Prof, Janse's monographs together with the bheir plates. Pehpei is a nice small village town situated on the western bank of the famous river Kia Ling Kiang and about 60 kilometers north from Chung- Fre It can be easily reached both by steanlaunches and auto- mobiles. Since the fall of Nanking in December 1937, we have heard nothing from there. Our printer Mr. Paul Wu and his fami- ly took their refuge to Hunan province last summer, but their present whereabouts no body knows. Otherwise we can get inform- ations through ir. Wu. Your maps of archaeological sites of Kan- su, as printed some 14 years ago, were stored in our library in Nanking when we evacuated from that city in November 1937. I am afraid they must have been lost or destroyed by the Japanese. As regards the printing of the three monographs, we regret to say that due to the lack of the printing material and facilities it makes the printing of the scientific papers as such far more dif- fieult in the interior. However we shall look forward to have these monographs printed as soon as the conditions become permissi- ble. Dr, Wong is still holding his portfolio of the Ninistry of Economic Affairs in Chungking. He sometimes comes here to visit his family which has been moved to a village very near Pehpei.
