Dear Professor Karlgren, I send you to-day under separate cover, a photograph of a square bronze "Ting", whieh I think you would like for your collection. The measurements of the bronze are: Length, 21.2em. (over the handles). Height, 27ecm. (to the top of the handles). Width, 16em- (on upper lip). A rubbing of the inseription is fixed on the back of the photograph. The bronze is reported to have been found at Hsäån Hsien, Honan. The translation of the inscription given me by my uncle is: Li ke hsing (in memory of the vietorious). Fu (father). Chia (first number). I enclose a rubbing of an inscription in a "Kuei" bronze vessel in my possession, of which I have been told that it shows some rather queer characters. I should like to know of some other inscription which shows the same characters. The "Kuei" itself cömes from an old Chinese collection, and the preparation is like most of those bronzes, rather brownish. It has a small crack, which shows that the bronze is very brittle.
