UNIVERSITY CENTER, STATION WILLIAM MATHEWSON MILLIKEN, DISECTOR CABLE ADDRESS: MUSART CLEVELAND October 12, 1938 Bernhard Karlgren, Esq. Ostasiatiska Samlingarna Stockholm, Sweden Dear Professor Karlgren: Although your museun receives our Bulletin regularly, I am in addition sending you personally a copy of the current number, as I have learned fron lir. Low Beer and Dr. Maenchen-Helfen of your interest in the lacquer object that we have recently purchased. Also I have referred so much to your articles in your bulletin that I want to express my appreciation to you. I think you will find the photographs of details reasonably adequate, although the photograph on the cover is reduced so far as to obliterate most of the design. I feel sure that you must have seen the prints that I sent to Professor Andersson some months ago. You will, of course, understand that our bulletin is not a scholarly publication like your om and that even my brief article is far more detailed than it should be. I should be very glad to have your comments on the object and to know whether you think a fairly definite date can be assigned to it. Dr. Maenchen was here two days ago and said that he believed it belonged in the fourth century rather than in the third, as I had suggested. With my best regards and still in the hope of meeting you some- day, Yours very sincerely, | Howard Coonley Njllis Curator of Oriental Art HCH:LH</pres:description><pres:context><pres:event xml:lang="sv">Tillverkad</pres:event><pres:timeLabel>1938</pres:timeLabel></pres:context><pres:image><pres:mediaType>image/jpeg</pres:mediaType><pres:src type="thumbnail">https://collections.smvk.se/carlotta-om/web/image/tn/10242477/E1A-17_0102.jpg</pres:src><pres:src type="lowres">https://collections.smvk.se/carlotta-om/web/image/zoom/10242476/E1A-17_0102.jpg</pres:src><pres:mediaLicense>http://kulturarvsdata.se/resurser/License#by-nc-nd</pres:mediaLicense><pres:byline xml:lang="sv">Östasiatiska museet</pres:byline><pres:copyright xml:lang="sv">Statens museer för världskultur</pres:copyright></pres:image><pres:references><pres:reference>http://kulturarvsdata.se/SMVK-OM/arkiv/204096</pres:reference></pres:references><pres:representations><pres:representation format="HTML">http://kulturarvsdata.se/SMVK-OM/arkivdokument/html/512471</pres:representation><pres:representation format="XML">http://kulturarvsdata.se/SMVK-OM/arkivdokument/xml/512471</pres:representation><pres:representation format="RDF">http://kulturarvsdata.se/SMVK-OM/arkivdokument/rdf/512471</pres:representation></pres:representations></pres:item>
