Dear Dr. Fu:= When I thin time came to China I told my friend, Dr, Wong Wen Hao, that I had a special desire to soc Szechuan, a province so far unimown to me. My reasons for doing so were two-fold. First, Szechuan is the southern neighbour province of Kansu and I would like to know whether any of the Kansu cultures have given any reaction within Szechuan. Secondly, here is/Museum of Archaeology of the West China Union Univer- sity the material of which I wished to study. Dr. Wong explained himself willing to provide me with two letters of introduction, one to His Excelleney, the Governor and the other to Dr, Zen, the President of the Na- tional University. He added that any specimens collected by me in Szechuan should be presented to the National University. At my arrival in Chengtu I began at once an in- tense study of the Museum of Archaeology which contains, as bed will find, certain groups of early objects of considerable ;erost. Only two days after my arrival in Chengtu I was invited together with Dr. Graham to Mr, Iu Dso-fu, the Direc- tor of the Bureau of Reconstruction who asked me to undertalko the examination of two iron deposits in different parts of the province. I explained myself willing to do 80, but & prolonged stay in the province with extensive travelling has put me in a Aifficult position which I wish you to help me to solve.
