Cathay Mansions, Shanghai. Professor B. Karlgren, Östasiatiska Samlingarna, Stockholm, Sweden. Dear Professor Karlgren:- I am now going to write you a mich belated account on the list of purchases. As you see from the list I have so far accounted for 87 purchases. I know well that the bronze vessel purchased from some Chinese pri- vate dealers by mediation of Swallow was too expensive. There was a beautiful four-legged "Ting" which I had liked to buy for the Crow Prince but the price was too high and the men or Swallow - or both - were too obstinate so I finished by buying this vessel No: 31, as well as the gold fish No: 30, because I was anxious to do some business with Swallow in order not to lose this connection at the very beginning. These 'objects are partly sent and partly detalned here as you will see in the following:- The big box "Ö 8 - 1" contains the bronze vessel, No: 31, the gold-fiIsh, No: 30, and the ear- liest purchases, Nos: 1 to 14. These things are smuggled down to Hongkong and sent from there with the Swedish boat, —M.V. Peiping. Nos: 15 to 29 are still here and will be sent by King”s help and by mail. Box No, 2, a small box, con- tains Chuang's pottery collections at the Tal Hu Lake. This box should be opened only by me at my return. Box No. 3 contains the six mortuary figures from Canton, Nos: 32 to 37. Box No. 4 is to be the present given by Mr. Schofield. Only God imows what it will be! Boxes 1 & 2 were sent with the M.V. Peiping. Boxes 3 & 4 are supposed to be sent by the next Swedish boat homeward bound. Yours very truly, A/D I. G. Andersson</pres:description><pres:content xml:lang="sv">J. G.
