As I can judge at the present mo- ment I will very likelg leave for China exactly a year from now. The premature death of our friend Black was a great loss to science and a terrible happening to all of us who hed learned to love and admire Black so dearly. My popular book, "Children of the :ellow-= ÅK ÖVS2 earth" of which I send you a copy, I have dedicated to the memory of Black. I am very happy to learn that you have taken over many of Black”s duties and I understand that the great Sinanthropus research work now rests entirely with you. I sincerely hope that you will be able to carry on this research until we kvow everything about Sinanthropus. It is remarkable that so far we know practically only the skull. Black”s small preliminary note on some digits of the hind-limbs may promise some sensational development when the limb bones are better known. It goes without saying that I will be extremely grateful for any information on the geological and palaeonthological work carried on in China at present. c Kindly remember that there is a big field of Eocene along the Peking-Hankow railway north of the Yellow River.
