National Museum, fashington, D.C, Dear Sir:= In November 1921 you were good enough to write me and say thet you would undertake to identify the mammal bones taken by Pr. JG, Andersson and myself in our excavation of the cave deposit at Sha Kuo T'un in Fengtien. Accordingly on May 18, 1922 I sent you the bones in question with a covering letter, a& copy of which I enclose. I have received the Return Slips of the Registered Parcel signed for by you in fashington but since then have had no further word as to the progress of your works. Dr. Andersson will return to China on September 1st next for a conference to plan for further field work in which I shall cooperete., On October lst the Crown Prince of Sweden who is Chairman ot the Research Commission lergely suppor- ting Dr. åndersson's work is also due in Peking. Before departing on another expedition it is out intention to try end finish our reports on all the material Pr. Andersson has already collected. This will take several months so that it is unlikely that we can leave for the field till lete in 1927.
