Consequently you will have my cooepration for musevm work in Peking or för paleontological fieldwork to the lergest possible extent without other responsibility for the Chinese Government than the payment of my small retirement salary. How eventual cooperation in China can best be arranged, I hope to be allowed to discuss with you verbally at my coming vbsåt to China. considering that only part of the collections can be unpacked in the present laboratory, Ihad wished to ask you to allow me to postpone my return to Peking until the beginning of next year. However the coming visit of our Crownprince to China has made it desireble for me to hasten my return tp Peking and I hope to be there about the first of September if my plans are approved by you. Because of the very effective support which the Crownprince has given to my archeological work I naturally wish to show him such sites like Yang Shao Tsun which are easily accessible from the railway. To Dr V. K. Ting and Dr Wong Wen hao, Directors of the Geological Survey, Peking. Tear Dr Ting and Dr Wong, I have remained silent for a long time, because my personal affairs here have not been settled as far as the Swedigh gide is concerned, unti last night, when I had a long talk over the whole preblem with the research committee, and I herewith present to you my ideas after having reached a föll understanding with my Swedish frtiendsg. wWnen I arrived here in July last year eetain-arrangeåentr- certain arrangements were made for me to accomodate the collections and my scientific work. A sum of money for the paying of assistants and some rether small rooms were held in readiness for me. However, it very soon became evident to me that the funds at disposal would by far not suffis for the scientific prepartion of the whole material. Furthermore Isaw — already in November that the rooms at my disposal were sufficient only för the handling of half of the material. It then became evident that some more permanent arrangement had to be made in order to ensure the undistirbed work with the scientific Gescription of the collections. The research committee had not the means . of supporting such permant laboratory work so I had to turn to govemnmern government help. The finding of suitable laboratory quarters, the rearranging of my personal position and persuading the different government authorities in taking interst in this work has taken much of my time from late sprin autumn until recently, but I am glad to report that I have been able to secure arrangements whieh will, as far as I can see? be to the full, 0357 2 satisfaction of all interested parties. In order to ensure the undisturbed prevaration of the collections Isaw no way except taking a permanett position here änd getting at the same time the necessary rooms and funds. Returning to China for ever and giving up the collections to Swedish archeologists would have been entirely unsatisfactory as I saw clearly that my supervbsion and constant cooperation was needed specially as only half of the material could be unpacked an labelled in the present quarters. At the same time as I felt it my duty to stick to the collections and see to that they will be fully described, there was of course anothe factor whieh has persuaded me not to cut off all connections with Sweden and return for good to China. This factor is of course the unsettled political situation in Beking and the uncertainty whether I would be able to carry ön scientifie work in Peking without taking over very heavy teaching duties or otherwise being handicapped by lack of funds when my connection with Sweden was cut. Guided by these consideration I undertook to try to secure here in Stockholm a research position which would free me from all teaching work and allow me to divide my time only between the prepartion and describing the collections at present in my handg and such field researc in China as or musews work in Peking as you may suggest to me. With the kind assistance of H. R. H. the Crownprince and the ready support of the Swedish Government Ihave been promised the following arran gement which I herewith submit to your kind consideration: I: I have been offfered a researchprofessorship of east-asiatic archeol olgy connected with the Academy of Archeology and History. The salary offered is very modest when compared with my Peking salary but the very important point ig that I will be given the widest freedom to spend such time in in Peking for museum work or in China for fieldwork as you might siggest to me. 2: It has been my express condition, which is fully acknowledged and approved by all parties concerned that such cooperation with you will</pres:content><pres:context><pres:event xml:lang="sv">Tillverkad</pres:event><pres:nameLabel xml:lang="sv">Andersson, Johan Gunnar</pres:nameLabel><pres:timeLabel>1926-03-07</pres:timeLabel></pres:context><pres:context><pres:event xml:lang="sv">Mottagen</pres:event><pres:nameLabel xml:lang="sv">Wong, Wen-hao (Weng, Wenhao), Ding Wenjiang (V.
