In fact the difference is not more than that we are rather in doubt whether it is worth while to lower the standard of our monographs by using these inferior methods. I hope that you will consider the mat- ter carefully together with Dr. Ting and in åue time I will receive your instructions on these two points. vt These are the only technical suggestions which, are able to make in order to cut down expenses. For the rest there is only one way,name- ly to ask the author$not to write about toolminor details but to concen- trate on the essential features. Chssan ; As to Mr. Young, the student who is now studying in Muenchen, I spoke to Professor Wiman early in September. All the larger groups of mammals were already provided for, but he suggested to give the Rodents tö Mr. Yöung. Ihis ig a material of small forms which could easily be sent to Muenchen and I am glad to have been informed by Professor Wiman that the material was sent to Mr. Young already some time ago. I visited Professor Wiman in Upsala early in September and was most favorably impressed by his work. The collection of Carnivores which he had ready to send to you was really splendid and I feel sure that you will be very pleased to have it on exhibition in your museum. You will hear from me in very few days concerning several other matters and in the meantime I have the honour to remain with the kindest regards to Dr. Ting and Yourself. Yours very sincerely</pres:description><pres:content xml:lang="sv">0047 Stockholm, November 20th, 1925. Dr. Wong Wen-hac, Director of the Geological Survey, FE KI HR Dear Dr. Wong, First I must apologize to you for not having written much earlier. It took me considerable time to settle down in the new environ- ment, and furthermore the work with unpacking and preparing our archeo- logical collections has taken all my time during these months. I have uu given all possible support from the local authorities here, and the work is now progressing smoothly. I have been given a number of rooms with a good laboratory in the Historical Museum, and nearly half of the Kansu collection is now unpacked and prepared for being photographed and de- scribed., I have five assistants at my disposal and consider that the work is now well on the way. We have just begun the photographic work and the detailed description of the complete funeral urns. I hope in the course of the spring to have a considerable number of these ready för repacking and returning to the Geological Survey of China. S As to our Swedish Publication Fund much money has been consumed lately but, as you know, very big monographs on fossil mammals have been printed, and in addition Halle has made much progress with his nu- merous plates. I herewith send you an account giving the money spent from the Kreuger fund until September 8th., showing that Swedish Crowns 34.187:67 has been consumed and that the remaining amount is Sw.Cr. 21.497:78. ; In the beginning of September I had a meeting with Lagrelius, Wiman and Halle to discuss the plans for the future publication work. At this occasion we agreed to divide the remaining amount in three egual parts, one to be used by Wiman, one by Halle and one by me. I feel that "this arrangement will help a little to make the respective departments economise with their funds. At ine same occasion I discussed with Wiman and Halle further means of cutting dovn expenses without lowering toomuch the standard of our monographs. Both the two mentioned colleagues were excegdingly willing to meet me in this effort and we agreec upon the following sug- gestions to you. 1: That only parts of the plates will be printed in heliotype and that as many plates as possible will be executed in Ccopper-plate. I herewith send you two experimental prints of one of Zdansky's plates printed both in heliotype and copper-plate. You will see at onee that the copper-plate ig decidedly inferior. On a sheet hereby added you will find an estimate of plate printed in heliotype and in copper-plate. 2: To print the text of Palaeontologia Sinica with a less spacious type. We have made an experiment also in this case and send you two sheets, one with the print used so far and the other with the much smaller print. I have calculated that you can get in an additional amount of 374 more text by using these sma ler prints, and Mr. Lagrelius calculates that the saving in the cost of textprinting would amount to about: Z of the total cost of the text; setting, paper, printing etc.</pres:content><pres:context><pres:event xml:lang="sv">Tillverkad</pres:event><pres:nameLabel xml:lang="sv">Andersson, Johan Gunnar</pres:nameLabel><pres:timeLabel>1925-11-20</pres:timeLabel></pres:context><pres:context><pres:event xml:lang="sv">Mottagen</pres:event><pres:nameLabel xml:lang="sv">Wong, Wen-hao (Weng, Wenhao)</pres:nameLabel></pres:context><pres:image><pres:mediaType>image/jpeg</pres:mediaType><pres:src type="thumbnail">https://collections.smvk.se/carlotta-om/web/image/tn/10015249/E1A-1_0047.jpg</pres:src><pres:src type="lowres">https://collections.smvk.se/carlotta-om/web/image/zoom/10015248/E1A-1_0047.jpg</pres:src><pres:mediaLicense>http://kulturarvsdata.se/resurser/License#cc0</pres:mediaLicense><pres:byline xml:lang="sv">Andersson, Johan Gunnar</pres:byline><pres:copyright xml:lang="sv">Utgången upphovsrätt</pres:copyright></pres:image><pres:image><pres:mediaType>image/jpeg</pres:mediaType><pres:src type="thumbnail">https://collections.smvk.se/carlotta-om/web/image/tn/10015253/E1A-1_0048.jpg</pres:src><pres:src type="lowres">https://collections.smvk.se/carlotta-om/web/image/zoom/10015252/E1A-1_0048.jpg</pres:src><pres:mediaLicense>http://kulturarvsdata.se/resurser/License#cc0</pres:mediaLicense><pres:byline xml:lang="sv">Andersson, Johan Gunnar</pres:byline><pres:copyright xml:lang="sv">Utgången upphovsrätt</pres:copyright></pres:image><pres:references><pres:reference>http://kulturarvsdata.se/SMVK-OM/arkiv/204080</pres:reference><pres:reference>http://kulturarvsdata.se/SMVK-EM/name/1239710</pres:reference><pres:reference>http://kulturarvsdata.se/SMVK-EM/name/3213503</pres:reference></pres:references><pres:representations><pres:representation format="HTML">http://kulturarvsdata.se/SMVK-OM/arkivdokument/html/204291</pres:representation><pres:representation format="XML">http://kulturarvsdata.se/SMVK-OM/arkivdokument/xml/204291</pres:representation><pres:representation format="RDF">http://kulturarvsdata.se/SMVK-OM/arkivdokument/rdf/204291</pres:representation></pres:representations></pres:item>
