The pediment is crowned with two remaining almost circular akroteria. The slightly damaged plinth bears an inscription in Greek.
The motive in the centre depicts a sacrificial shafted axe with an almost flat upper side and a sharp triangular edge pointing toward the plinth. The axe is seen from the side with a shaft perforating it from the right hand side ending in a small knob on the left hand side of the axe head.</pres:description><pres:content xml:lang="en">MM 2014:005, Donated by Dorin Dent in 2010. Aquired in Izmir, Turkey around 1960. , The inscription is a dedication to Zeus Alsènos by Phrygian people. Maybe that the "épiclèse" Alsènos comes from "alsos", which means "holy wood". In my opinion, the axe depicted could be in connection with the ritual cutting of holy trees, or with the sacrifice of ox/bulls, or both. (Mühlenbock, 2014), The upper left side of the pediment is missing due to a dent. A small part of the lower right side of the stele is also missing although the inscription is intact and perfectly readable. , Votive offering, Turkey</pres:content><pres:context><pres:event xml:lang="en">Brukad</pres:event><pres:timeLabel xml:lang="en">Roman</pres:timeLabel></pres:context><pres:context><pres:event xml:lang="en">Funnen</pres:event><pres:placeLabel xml:lang="en">Asien, Turkiet, Phrygia</pres:placeLabel></pres:context><pres:image><pres:mediaType>image/jpeg</pres:mediaType><pres:src type="thumbnail">https://collections.smvk.se/carlotta-mhm/web/image/tn/4059832/MM+2014%3B005%281%29.jpg</pres:src><pres:src type="lowres">https://collections.smvk.se/carlotta-mhm/web/image/zoom/4059831/MM+2014%3B005%281%29.jpg</pres:src><pres:mediaLicense>http://kulturarvsdata.se/resurser/License#cc0</pres:mediaLicense><pres:byline xml:lang="en">Kaneberg, Ove</pres:byline><pres:copyright xml:lang="en">Statens museer för världskultur</pres:copyright></pres:image><pres:image><pres:mediaType>image/jpeg</pres:mediaType><pres:src type="thumbnail">https://collections.smvk.se/carlotta-mhm/web/image/tn/4059842/MM+2014%3B005%283%29.jpg</pres:src><pres:src type="lowres">https://collections.smvk.se/carlotta-mhm/web/image/zoom/4059841/MM+2014%3B005%283%29.jpg</pres:src><pres:mediaLicense>http://kulturarvsdata.se/resurser/License#cc0</pres:mediaLicense><pres:byline xml:lang="en">Kaneberg, Ove</pres:byline><pres:copyright xml:lang="en">Statens museer för världskultur</pres:copyright></pres:image><pres:image><pres:mediaType>image/jpeg</pres:mediaType><pres:src type="thumbnail">https://collections.smvk.se/carlotta-mhm/web/image/tn/4059837/MM+2014%3B005%282%29.jpg</pres:src><pres:src type="lowres">https://collections.smvk.se/carlotta-mhm/web/image/zoom/4059836/MM+2014%3B005%282%29.jpg</pres:src><pres:mediaLicense>http://kulturarvsdata.se/resurser/License#cc0</pres:mediaLicense><pres:byline xml:lang="en">Kaneberg, Ove</pres:byline><pres:copyright xml:lang="en">Statens museer för världskultur</pres:copyright></pres:image><pres:representations><pres:representation format="HTML">http://kulturarvsdata.se/SMVK-MM/objekt/html/4056980</pres:representation><pres:representation format="XML">http://kulturarvsdata.se/SMVK-MM/objekt/xml/4056980</pres:representation><pres:representation format="RDF">http://kulturarvsdata.se/SMVK-MM/objekt/rdf/4056980</pres:representation></pres:representations></pres:item>
