On either side stand attendants holding open a gate, their heads turned backwards, they wear single horned headdresses and are robed similarly to the deity; in between the backs of the attendants is placed a long stemmed plant similar to a wheat sheaf. This seal was acquired from the widow of Professor von Osten (see above - Royal Collections Series No. MM 1962.1 )
Seal impressions in Tumba, see below, Some surface wearing, 33 x 18 (19) mm (slightly concave in the middle), bores 5.5 mm., Parallels: Buchanan 1966, nos. 345-347, Collon 1984, p.85 nos. 169-177, note no. 168 for similar plant, described as a “feather-like tree”. This scene is considered to illustrate the sun-god on his dawn rising from the mountain, the “gates to heaven” opened for him by two attendants, at the start of the daily journey across the sky, his journey giving life sustaining warmth and sustenance to all growing things symbolized by the plant.
