(AS 5).MM 1969:019, Ex. case no. 7i. H812 This short text from Umma shows the enigmatic character of some of the Ur III texts and the exact meaning and purpose of the text remains somewhat unclear. According to M. Stepien, 63% of the distributions of animals (to specified destinations) in Umma were for different cultic purposes. Therefore, one possible explanation of our text could be that two grass-fed sheep were (or were supposed to be) sacrificed as the “contribution of a day” in the eighth month of the fourth year in the reign of Amar-Suen. However, it is not possible to conclude from the text by whom they were sacrificed and to which god and temple the sacrifice was conducted.
