In the centre of the picture are two young men, dressed in sleeveless, girdled tunics, high-laced sandals and Phrygian caps. Both are armed with lance and sword. The man to the right also wears a chlamys fastened with a button at his right shoulder. They both grasp with their hands a windlass and a rope leading down into a well-curb. Out ot the well-curb a human head peeps forth and the figure grasps the rope with its right hand. In the background a building with an architrave and columns with its capitals is visible. The representation is flanked by two figures. To the right is a seated man with long curly hair and a naked upper body and a mantle draped over his legs. On his head a cap. His left hand is raised. The man on the left side has his right arm raised. His is also naked except from a phrygian cap, high-laced sandals and a mantle around his back. His left arm rests on a stick. On the well-curb is an inscription: Helenei, and on the mirror seem to be inscribed the names of te flanking figures: Ziumithe or Diomedes (to the left) and Uthste or Odysseus (to the right). On the frame is also written Alathna, probably the name of the owner (a well-known Viterbo-family). The picture is framed by a leaf-wreath. The reflecting side of the mirror is framed by a profiled egg-moulding and the hilt is decorated with a leaf-ornament.</pres:description><pres:content>MM 1963:002, Purchased in art store in Hecht, Switzerland.
