Long rather narrow body sloping towards a flattened foot. Under foot a depression. Handle with oval profil from shoulder bending alongside neck. Lip and exterior handle are black painted, two lines of ”rays” set on shoulder. Body carries a symposion scene set between a dotted band and a broad black band. The symposion scene is very rudimentary and non skilfully drawn with a bearded man lying on a couch. In front of him can be seen a standing man with what looks like a sicle in one hand. To the left is a seated man on a stool. All three are wearing himations. Red is added to the drapery and beard and a line across the heads (like a hat). Behind the men running from left to right is what possibly should suggest wine. However, many variants of the shape do exist, including the rounded, squat form and the ovoid “Deianeira” form, all in various sizes. They were used for the storage of oils and are especially associated with funerary contexts. Towards the end of the fourth century BC they were functionally replaced by the unguentaria., Good condition though some chips in slip especially on broad lip and inferior body.
