He is standing with the weight on the right leg and the left slighly bent. A mantle, fastened with a circular brooch on right shoulder, falls down the back in heavy folds. The head, with long, curly hair tied up in a topknot over the forehead, is turned to the right (figures left). On the left shoulder is an inscription. Previously part of the Lansdowne Collection., Roman copy of a Greek original from c. 350 B.C. attributed to Leochares. On the left shoulder is an 18th century inscription indicating the find-spot as the Gardens of Sallust in Rome., Reconstructed. Put together in the 18th century from ancient (head and torso Roman original) and newly-made parts. Left arm, most of fingers on right hand, and part of genitals missing. Several cracks.
