Thick, bevelled rim, sloping outwards; raised, rectangular handle plates at rim; splaying neck; bulging shoulder; ovoid body, tapering towards base; hoop handles from handle plates to shoulder; stepped disc base in two degrees. Pink to pale brown clay; black glaze; red wash. On the reserved rim top an ivy branch with leaves and flowers; palmettes, coiling tendrils and triangular leaves on handle plates; A: on outside of rim confronting lions and wild boars; in the reserved neck panel an ivy branch with leaves and flowers; tongue pattern in shoulder panel; on body two confronting couples – to the right Eros, seated on a rock, holding out his hand towards a standing woman to the right; the woman leans her left elbow on a pedestal and holds a wreath in her right hand; to the left a standing, naked youth with himation over his left arm and a fillet over his curls holds up a mirror towards a standing woman to the right; the woman wears a stephane, chiton and himation; in the upper field a suspended, dotted fillet; B: on outside of rim horizontal rows of dots between bands; irregularly shaped tongues in shoulder panel; on body two pairs of confronting youths wearing himatia – the first youth of the couple to the left holds a stick; the first youth in the couple to the right holds a strigil; A and B: the figures are flanked by vertical rows of degenerate ivy; reserved band on lower part of base.NM Ant 2286, Gift from the Sicilian Ministry of Culture to king Gustaf VI Adolf and queen Louise in 1952, who in their turn gave it to the National Museum., Urval Galleriet.
