Mouth black; double row of rays on shoulder; outside of handle black; right below shoulder a meander band; on body opposite handle a sitting figure (Dionysos?) flanked by two women and a silen (incised details), behind the figures an ivy branch; below this two narrow black lines and two incised lines; lower body black with three incised lines; two incised lines at junction between body and base; base top and lower edge black.</pres:description><pres:content xml:lang="en">NM Ant 1126, A lekythos (pl. lekythoi) is generally a taller, cylindrical vessel with a small, deep mouth, narrow neck and a single handle. However, many variants of the shape do exist, including the rounded, squat form and the ovoid “Deianeira” form, all in various sizes. They were used for the storage of oils and are especially associated with funerary contexts. Towards the end of the fourth century BC they were functionally replaced by the unguentaria., SHM 00607:186e.
