Purchased in Rome, autumn 1963., A kylix (pl. kylikes) is a relatively shallow drinking vessel, typically raised on a stem from a foot and having two horizontal handles disposed symmetrically, although many variants of the shape do exist. Their primary use was for the consumption of wine during symposia and, especially during the Classical period, many were decorated with scenes of a humorous or sexual nature., The kylix has been previously broken and repaired, and missing areas have been filled some time in the past.
