The end of the pall was then carefully gathered up round the pole, which was gradually rolled towards the opposite side of the shrine. from time to time the rolling was interrupted to permit the collection or the picking off of the metal rosettes, in order to lighten the strain and prevent thier tearing the already fragile material."
