Two fish hooks are pictured here in life size (fig. 113). When a fish nibbled on a hook of this type and the hook tip pierced the mouth cartilage. the fish slides at first movement due to the shape of the hook down to its middle part and is then helplessly fixed. Even when the hook is swallowed, it has a remarkable ability to catch and retain the fish. To a fisherman who has not tried such a hook, it appears at first sight that Fig. 114. Gourd for storing fishery is completely unusable. Batwa place great value on their fish hooks and always have several of these in reserve. These are stored in gourds intended for this purpose.
