Liked in the following way. (See pp. 87—89.) A round hole of a few decimetres wide and deep is dug in the peat, preferably on an antelope trail. A pile A is firmly lowered at the edge of the hole, which is covered with a tread plate B. This is attached to a stick C, which is inserted horizontally into the peat. The snare D is placed on the pedal plate. A strong base rope F is attached to the loop at E, which is tied to some coarse papyrus tubes. The small stick G is laid so that, if the rope at E is tightened, it presses the free end of the cane attached to the tread plate against the pile A. Now a nearby resilient papyrus tube H is bent down, to which the narrow string I is tied. The snare is now ready If an antelope steps on the plate, it is bent down, releasing the stick G. The moment this happens, the bent papyrus tube regains its upright position and the snare is tightened around the antelope's legs."
