Bisa people extract the iron from bog ore, but the copper, on the other hand, originates from the mines in Katanga, which have long been processed by both Negroes and Arabs. That the Negroes themselves make copper wire is a well-known fact, and that the natives of Katanga also understood this art, is evident from the following statement by Livingstone: "A month to the westward of Kazembe's country lies Katanga, where the people smelt copperore (malachite)....The natives draw the copper into wire for armlets and leglets."
