Buddha sitting on a lotus throne. At the back a rivet for fastening the image to its base. Montell 1938, Pl II, 6. The small Buddha reliefs, Pl II, 3, 6, 8, form a special group. The arrangement is the same in all the cases with the seated figure supported by a lotus throne or a console. Behind the figure there is always a plain aureole. It seems as if these small reliefs were intended to be attached to a background. Their resemblance to the previously described stucco fragments is striking (Montell Pl. XIX, 2). The same type of small bronzes occur in other collections from Khotan. (Hoernle 1902, Pl. XII, 7. Stein 1921, Pl VI.) Montell 1938, page 85/Is.Arkeologiskt föremål förvärvat i Borazan. Föremålen inköpta av Hedin från lokalbefolkningen. I brev hem av den 10 januari 1896 skriver Hedin: "Yesterday I visited the village of Borazan, where those remarkable Buddhist antiquities are found, but I made practically no discoveries. On the other hand the natives come along daily with their terracotta figures, pots, precious stones with engraved portraits, coins, Buddha images etc. ... and I have acquired a lot of these things cheaply enough. There is an old Tartar, of Orenburg, living here, by the name of Rafikoff, and he speaks Russian fluently.
