He comes from the Squamish, Musgamagw dzawada’enuxw, Namgis, Tlingit/Haida and Celtic people through blood and cultural rites of passage. Zee Kwakwee feels fortunate to have been brought up with the Potlatch Traditions, Ceremonies and mentoring he received from his extended family of artists. This gave him an early understanding of the complexities of Traditional First Nation art forms, history, meaning and protocol of his rights and use of family crests. He accredits his father Gigaemi Kukwits, mother Thaïs Sewell and family friend Tom Doucette for his creative inspiration and contemporary foundation.
